This morning I mentioned the two major trends of 2009. I just read that Lou Dobbs decided to leave CNN to devote his time to his new web venture Space.com. He is investing in outer space.

”I believe space is the most exciting and biggest news story of this year and of the next millennium,” he said yesterday. ”I’m fundamentally a journalist, and can’t resist the biggest story. We’ll be the category definer, the first mover, the authoritative site.”

I know I would feel much better about government spending if it was going into advancing humankind rather than lining the pockets of bankers on Wall Street. Imagine if the government was spending billions and trillions to establish a human colony on another planet. Imagine if Boeing was producing spacecraft to permit space travel for your average human being rather than just a select few.

I truly wish Dobbs the utmost success with his new venture and I hope he brings a new voice to this important subject. I also hope that Dobbs hires some programmers to rebuild the website. It runs quite slow and needs a face lift as soon as possible. This is my opinion but if you look at the site I think you will find it to be an objective truth.

Perhaps Dobbs is onto something. Add investing in outer space to your watch list.

  • Hey CC, as a full-time employee in the Space Industry and part-time investor/trader, I'm all for private space enterprise. I'd even be interested in getting involved with some outfit looking to mine asteroids for minerals... imagine what THAT would do to the price of commodities! In fact, I think Richard Branson has mentioned something like that.

BTW, The Onion just broke some news on Lou Dobbs:

  • lol. I don't know where they come up with this stuff.

Wishing you the best with your space career. I wish it was a much bigger priority in this country.

Hi CC, if my memory serves me right, I think he did this exact same thing some years back to start Space.com and later returned to CNN.
  • I love the idea of it and promoting mainstream interest in space and astronomy. I am a bit surprised by how crude the site with a backer behind it like Lou Dobbs. Hopefully he'll stick with it this time.
