The United States has been going through one of the coldest winters with snow falling in all states other than Hawaii. Yet, UNG and NG futures continue to fall. I’m quite the novice with respect to the fundamentals driving natural gas, but I would think that by any measure this winter should have been [...]

The November-December consolidation seems to be melting up out of its trading range. It shows up on indexes such as IWM and SPY and market leaders such as AAPL, BLK and IBM are starting to take out resistance. While I don’t know how long this move up will last, low volume weeks like this week [...]

While I don’t think there is much trading to do before the new year, there are some movements that are worth keeping on the radar.

LQD. It is too early to tell, but the market may be at the beginning stages of pricing in interest rate hikes. LQD has been trading sideways since its trendline [...]

UNG might be making a bottom. It is trading at resistance below its long term trendline, 50 DMA and 89 DMA. If UNG can take out approximately the $10.75 area, I would be comfortable calling a bottom. I would not jump the potential breakout because the descending triangle is bearish until broken.

UNG

I added a small position in UNG. The voice in my head tells me this one is going to fool technicians looking for a bounce and that it will continue going lower. However, the objective part of me is taking the trade because it is trading right at horizontal support giving me a low [...]

Natural gas bulls appear to be defeated again in the short term. Note the pipe top at $6 on the NG futures and a potential breakdown below the 50 day SMA. I’ve closed my UNG position.

UPDATE:

As expected, today is another choppy day. The good news is it was expected. The nice move [...]

The most important chart continues to be the dollar.

As I mentioned in my short AAPL post (I closed my position today – it was just a quick scalp), it seemed likely that the market might have a brief pause due to the dollar hitting support (and UDN hitting resistance). I also noted that the [...]

It is one thing to have good trading ideas, it is quite another to execute well. Anyone that has entered a trade and been stopped out by a few pennies only to watch a stock blast off knows the difference between a good idea and a good idea coupled with good execution.
UNG was a perfect [...]

UNG sold off hard today. I’m not into chasing falling knife scenarios but the measured move on the breakdown from $13 should be about $9. If you combine that with RSI at 20 it makes me quite interested in getting long for a quick trade.

TLT has been quietly moving higher. I would expect some resistance [...]

Today I completed my summer cleaning. I trashed almost my entire junk long portfolio. I hope to rebuild it once again if the opportunity arises, but for now my only junk long positions are: SAY, MOT, REV and ETFC. I am now only 21% invested with a short bias. I am patiently waiting for some [...]
