This is an attempt at creating a comprehensive list of trading blogs. The criteria for a blog to be on my list is purposely quite limited:

1. The blog must relate to trading stocks, futures, bonds, currency and/or options.

2. The blog must be in existence for at least two weeks before it is added to the list and contain an average of 2-3 posts per week.

3. The blog must be continually updated. I intend to keep this list updated and I may remove a blog from the list that remains dormant for more than 3-4 weeks.

The idea to produce a comprehensive trading blog list came about for two reasons. First, for my own benefit, I wanted to have a quick place to scan during the day and watch for any eye catching posts. I'm always looking for posts with actionable ideas. For example, a post titled "going long POT" will likely cause me to take a quick look and check my POT chart to see if I agree with the author's idea. Ultimately I make my own trading decisions but I'm also very open to leveraging the scope of my trading universe by reading ideas from other bloggers.

Second, I noticed there was no comprehensive list of blogs out there. The blog lists that are out there tend to be put together by Internet marketing people rather than people actually interested in trading. There are usually strings attached to being listed on these services such as having a reciprocal link back to their blog list. Sometimes a blogger has to pay money to be listed higher on their list or to even get listed. The lists are also often stale since the Internet marketer types don't stay up with new voices.

So what about blogrolls? The problem with blogrolls is that they tend to point to the same high traffic sites. Blogrolls generally come with strings attached. For example, many blogrolls are reciprocal link exchanges. In most cases, "if you are not willing to link to me, I'm not going to link to you." Whether you agree or disagree with this practice, it is reality.

Also, adding any link to a blogroll dilutes the value of the other links on a blogroll.

Blogrolls are also limited because by adding a blog to your blogroll you're telling your readers that the blog has something to offer. This naturally causes bloggers to limit their blogrolls and make them somewhat exclusive.

All of these factors work against having a comprehensive list of trading blogs. The positive aspect of a comprehensive trading blog list is that it is open and the reader gets to decide what they like. All bloggers are included whether you are good or stink, have high traffic or low. The disadvantage is that I suspect this list will become somewhat raw and unfiltered. Read at your own risk.

If you are a blog author and your blogs meets my limited criteria, post your RSS feed in the comments section on this page and I'll add your blog. You can also email me (see my About page). If you know of a blog that should be added to the list, please follow the same procedure.

  • Hi
With all due respect the entire idea of having "comprehensive list of trading blogs" is quite flowed.

First objective of "having quick list...of ideas" is harmful - trader shall NOT scan for ideas on 100 blogs, it is impossible to keep up, even less to understand the reasons for "ideas" on other blogs.

Secondly - having blogs which are in existence for only mere 2 weeks meaningless least to say and time consuming at best - blogs come and go.

Thirdly - unless you REALLY KNOW content of particular blog, if you respect people visiting YOUR blog - it is not advisable to direct others to places of traders (or just people who SAY they are traders - and that is easily detectable, just like on interview you can say person with REAL experience and scam artist) with no established credentials :)
  • David, I don't disagree that the list is flawed. The reader is charged with the responsibility of finding what works for them. I have stated that and your post should highlight it again.

The truth is that I compiled the list for myself. I usually scan it 1-2 times per day to see if there are any interesting titles. Every now and then I click on something if it seems relevant or interesting. It doesn't cost me anything to share it with people and perhaps some newbie bloggers get a few readers out of it.

I also have a real problem with most blogrolls. In some cases, they are just a list of the most popular blogs on the Internet that everyone knows about anyway. In other instances, I have seen friends of popular bloggers jump to the top of blogrolls because of who they know in real life. There are a few blogs/traders out there that are backed by popular bloggers that are terrible. They happen to get attention as "experts" or "pros" because of who they know, not for their work. These kinds of issues cause most blogrolls to be rather useless.

I will tell you that I don't like scanning through garbage. To the extent I decide someone is not posting enough or their work is just poor, I may clean up the list from time to time. Ultimately, the list needs to be a utility for me and then hopefully others get use out of it as well. I don't want to slog through junk any more than the next guy.

    Good trading this week.
